The following are magnetic switch cable links:
Troubleshooting Interactive knitting with magnetic switch cable linksThe problems associated with Interactive Knitting fall into two categories. Click on the one which corresponds to the problems you are having:
|
| If using a BrotherLink 2 or BrotherLink 5, try unplugging the cable from the knitting
machine's FB100 socket (but leave the black box with the red spot in place). On some
computers, interactive knitting cannot take place while the cable is fully connected in
the way that is appropriate for uploading and downloading. |
| Part of the DesignaKnit cable link package is a magnet which is mounted on the carriage.
Make sure that the magnet passes close to the red spot on the small black box which
attaches to the knitting machine console or mast. The magnet should be at the same height
above the console as the red spot, and when the carriage passes the black box there should
be a distance of not more than 5 mm (a fifth of an inch) between the magnet and the red
spot. Try making the gap as small as possible. | |
| A small proportion of computers with 386 or 486 processors may require the use of a special option for Interactive Knitting. This option exists for magnetic links in DesignaKnit 7 and in DesignaKnit 6.09a and later versions. It can be activated as follows: |
- Go to the Interactive Knitting screen and press the Esc key to close the opening dialogue box.
- Hold down the Control and Shift keys, then press the F3 key, then release Control and Shift.
- A dialogue box will be shown, informing you that DPA for Interactive Knitting is now ON.
Try knitting again. (If you have turned this option on, and want to turn it back off again, repeat steps 1 and 2 above and this time you should see a dialogue box saying that DPA for Interactive Knitting is now OFF.)
| If you are running DesignaKnit under Windows 3.x, and the computer does not have much
RAM, Interactive Knitting can fail to detect the movement of the carriage because the
processor is being interrupted by memory management operations. If the PC has only 4Mb
RAM, the virtual memory file should be at least 8Mb and preferably over 12Mb. PCs with 8Mb
RAM can also be affected by having a small virtual memory file. In order to get the
virtual memory big enough, it can be necessary to make some space on the hard disk by
deleting unwanted files, and sometimes also to defragment the hard disk (using the DEFRAG
program). Then select Control Panel, then 386 enhanced, then Virtual Memory, and if
necessary increase the amount of virtual memory. A permanent swap file is better than a
temporary one, and if other applications are running at the same as DesignaKnit, the
memory requirements will be greater. |
| If the on-screen carriage moves 2 passes for each pass of the real carriage, look on the connector at the PC end of the cable to see if there is a green spot (same size as the red spot on the detector box). If there is NOT a green spot, do the following: |
- Go to the Interactive Knitting screen and press the Esc key to close the opening dialogue box.
- Hold down the Control and Shift keys, then press the F3 key, then release Control and Shift.
- A dialogue box will be shown, informing you that the CR cable option is now OFF.
- Try knitting again. (If you have turned this option on, and want to turn it back off again, repeat steps 1 and 2 above and this time you should see a dialogue box saying that the CR cable option is now OFF.)
This option is ON by default for all versions of DesignaKnit 7
This option is OFF by default for early versions of DesignaKnit 6 but ON for DesignaKnit 6.09u1 and later
