Making colour lay plans with your existing stock of fabrics…

Planning the best use of the fabric that will be used

• Scan or photograph some of the fabric that you want to use to make up a pattern. Make sure that the image contains at least one colour pattern repeat.
• Position a selection box on the image to mark the boundary of a single pattern repeat.
• Use a trapezoid selection box, or one with curved sides if necessary, to cancel perspective or drape effects.
• The fabric is shown in true proportion and can be scaled to correct size.

• Drag the garment pieces so that the colour pattern falls on the garment pieces in the desired way. Apply a fade or tint to the colour pattern to make the edge markings more easily visible.
• Print the lay plan.
